Saxophonist Petr Cancura brings back the howling melodies and rumpus barks that sing on top of the unmistakable feel of Charlie Hunter and George Sluppick, a rhythm section so locked-in as a result of countless tours and sessions, it’ll make you dance inside and out.

Mod Cons is a debut release of the self-titled trio featuring twelve sax-driven original tunes. From the first note of the session, this band was on a mission! Mod Cons was recorded in the heart of Greensboro, North Carolina by veteran engineer Benjy Johnson using minimal microphones, with no overdubs or edits, recorded, mixed and mastered in mono to maximize groove & feel, and bring back in true spirit grooves like the shuffle, the twist, the Bo Diddley and the train beat.

Memphis drummer George Sluppick with not much more than a snare, bass drum, and a ride, the one and only Charlie Hunter with the Hybrid Big 6, and Czech-Canadian Petr Cancura with but a tenor saxophone, the band sounds like a rock ‘n roll orchestra yet could arguably fit inside the trunk of a 1950’s Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
